The flamingo bird became a symbol of the U.S. state of Florida shortly after the Great Depression, which was marked by the 1929 Crash. As the United States began to recover, the region started investing in resorts and casinos that offered entertainment to a country eager to forget the recession. At that time, it became increasingly common to import flamingos from the Caribbean to decorate spaces that showcased wealth and happiness. Over time, the birds gradually became symbols of this renewal.

This artwork was part of the solo exhibition Appeal, which explored American icons through the lens of abundance and scarcity. Each piece in the exhibition was neither a praise nor a critique of the American Way of Life, but rather an invitation to reflect on how various elements relate to local cultures and their echoes in Brazil.
